Just yesterday, I was helping my sis with her literature, and we were doing a collection about ROMANTICISM, IDEALISM, & OPTIMISM.. And within the lines, they talked about romantic/pop-culture heroes, like: Lone Ranger, Superman, Luke Skywalker, & many others.. AND I WAS DISGUSTED!! And after being disgusted, I was sad.. Deeply sad, for all the generations!!
And oh, then, they talked about (Emerson specifically) how reality is spiritual(& that I agreed with), and that “every natural fact, is a symbol of some spiritual fact"..
BUT then, they said that ROMANTICISM goes against RATIONALISM.. Then I got upset again.. And I believe it’s okay to be upset for Allah and His light.. And I think that’s where SUPERMAN came from.. With his disgusting outfits!!

full of sincere spirituality..

Salaam.
That's not Superman, it's Batman.
[/geek comments off] And his story is very interesting because, when the boy Bruce wants to be a superhero to venge his parents' killing... he becomes Batman. And Batman is a real bad guy.
I like Luke Skywalker too. He wants to become a fighter for the Goodness and he pays for it with his life. He doesn't die in combat, but he looses his chance to have a family or a normal life or to even forgive his own father...
When Pop Culture creates things it's not always Halaal stuff, of course. But youngsters can take some good lessons, for instance, that it doesn't matter how strong or handsome or etc you are... You're just a piece of the Big Game, and if you want to do good, you have to. If not, you will be a "hero", but a Batman-style hero.
I don't know which ones of Marvel Heroes editions go internationally, but if you have the chance, take a look to Daredevil adventures by Frank Miller (DON'T EVEN DARE TO HAVE A SIGHT ON THE AWFUL MOVIE). Daredevil hasn't powers, he's just a blind guy trying to get some tap water to the Bronx' neighbours... and he can save people, but his own girlfriend dies by AIDS and heroine. He can't stop all the evil at all. And that's a lesson for life that many teenagers can learn.
If not, take a look to The99.org ;)
Romanticism does go aginst Rationalism. What are we muslims but late romantics fighting for the Light, as Lancelot did?
